How the Bath Clean Air Zone works

Bath's Clean Air Zone is a Class C scheme covering the city centre. It charges the most polluting commercial vehicles but, unlike a Class D zone, it does not charge private cars or motorbikes — whatever their emissions.

A vehicle clears the zone if it meets the minimum emissions standard: broadly Euro 6 for diesels and Euro 4 for petrols. Compliant vehicles are never charged; non-compliant taxis, private-hire cars, vans and minibuses pay £9 a day, and non-compliant coaches, buses and HGVs pay £100 a day.

The charge applies every day of the year, around the clock, and a missed charge becomes a £120 penalty. Running the registration on a free check reads the vehicle's emissions status so you can see where it stands before you buy.
